ABSTRACT

In photothermal therapy (PTT), the photothermal conversion of the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window allows deeper penetration and higher laser irradiance and is considered a promising therapeutic strategy for deep tissues. Since cancer remains a leading cause of deaths worldwide, despite the numerous treatment options, we aimed to develop an improved bionic nanotheranostic for combined imaging and photothermal cancer therapy. We combined a gold nanobipyramid (Au NBP) as a photothermal agent and MnO2 as a magnetic resonance enhancer to produce core/shell structures (Au@MnO2; AM) and modified their surfaces with homologous cancer cell plasma membranes (PM) to enable tumour targeting. The performance of the resulting Au@MnO2@PM (AMP) nanotheranostic was evaluated in vitro and in vivo. AMP exhibits photothermal properties under NIR-II laser irradiation and has multimodal in vitro imaging functions. AMP enables the computed tomography (CT), photothermal imaging (PTI), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of tumours. In particular, AMP exhibited a remarkable PTT effect on cancer cells in vitro and inhibited tumour cell growth under 1064 nm laser irradiation in vivo, with no significant systemic toxicity. This study achieved tumour therapy guided by multimodal imaging, thereby demonstrating a novel strategy for the use of bionic gold nanoparticles for tumour PTT under NIR-II laser irradiation.

ABSTRACT

The gut health-promoting properties of saponin-rich Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua (FP) fermented with Lactobacillus plantarum P9 were explored in a dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis mouse model. FP supplementation effectively inhibited DSS-induced physiological alteration and impaired immune responses by reducing the disease activity index (DAI) score and restoring the T helper (Th) 1/Th2 and regulatory T (Treg)/Th17 ratios. In addition, FP supplementation protected the gut barrier function against DSS-induced damage via upregulation of zonula occludens (ZO)-1 and occludin and downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin (IL)-1ß, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), IL-18, and the granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). This study further elucidated the potential mechanisms underlying the FP-mediated suppression of the plasticity of type 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3) and subsequent macrophage polarization. Therefore, the FP supplementation effectively restored mucosal immune homeostasis and enhanced gut integrity. In addition, it suppressed the growth of Escherichia-Shigella and Enterococcus and promoted the enrichment of probiotics and short-chain fatty acid-producing microbes, such as Romboutsia, Faecalibaculum, and Blautia. In conclusion, P. cyrtonema Hua fermented with L. plantarum P9 might be a promising dietary intervention to improve gut health by sustaining overall gut homeostasis and related gut integrity.

ABSTRACT

Pathogenic fungi pose a significant threat to crop yields and human healthy, and the subsequent fungicide resistance has greatly aggravated these agricultural and medical challenges. Hence, the development of new fungicides with higher efficiency and greater environmental friendliness is urgently required. In this study, luvangetin, isolated and identified from the root of Zanthoxylum avicennae, exhibited wide-spectrum antifungal activity in vivo and in vitro. Integrated omics and in vitro and in vivo transcriptional analyses revealed that luvangetin inhibited GAL4-like Zn(II)2Cys6 transcriptional factor-mediated transcription, particularly the FvFUM21-mediated FUM cluster gene expression, and decreased the biosynthesis of fumonisins inFusarium verticillioides. Moreover, luvangetin binds to the double-stranded DNA helix in vitro in the groove mode. We isolated and identified luvangetin, a natural metabolite from a traditional Chinese edible medicinal plant and uncovered its multipathogen resistance mechanism. This study is the first to reveal the mechanism underlying the antifungal activity of luvangetin and provides a promising direction for the future use of plant-derived natural products to prevent and control plant and animal pathogenic fungi.

ABSTRACT

This experiment aimed to investigate whether supplementation of calves with different doses of oregano essential oil (OEO) could promote the development of the gastrointestinal tract and enhance the immune ability of calves by regulating the rumen microbiota. Twenty-four 70-day-old healthy and disease-free Holstein male calves were randomly divided into four groups, with the control group fed a basal diet, and the treatment group provided 4 g, 6 g, and 8 g of oregano essential oil per day in addition to the basal diet. After the 14-day pre-test, a 56-day formal test was conducted. At days 0 and 56 of the standard test period, calves were weighed, the average daily weight gain of calves during the test period was calculated, and serum samples were collected to measure the concentration of immunoglobulins (IgA, IgG, and IgM) in the serum; at day 56 of the formal test period, rumen fluid was collected from the calves, and 16SrRNA was sequenced to analyze changes in the rumen microbiota of the calves. The changes in the rumen microbiota of calves were analyzed by 16SrRNA sequencing. The results of the study showed that (1) OEO supplementation in calves significantly increased end weight and average daily gain (p < 0.05); (2) OEO supplementation in calves significantly increased serum concentrations of immunoglobulins IgA and IgM (p < 0.05); (3) OEO supplementation in calves significantly increased the abundance and diversity of rumen microbial organisms (p < 0.05); (4) OEO supplementation in calves significantly regulates the relative abundance of some species, and biomarkers with significant differences were screened by LEfSe analysis: g_Turicibacter, g_Romboutsia, f_Peptostreptococcaceae, f_Clostridiaceae, g_Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1, o_Clostridiales, g_unclassified_f_Synergistaceae, c_Coriobacteriia, o_Coriobacteriales, f_Atopobiaceae, g_Olsenella, p_Actinobacteriota, g_Defluviitaleaceae_UCG-011, f_Defluviitaleaceae, o_Corynebacteriales, g_Corynebacterium, f_Corynebacteriaceae, g_Shuttleworthia, f_Hungateiclostridiaceae, o_norank_c_Clostridia, g_Saccharofermentans, g_Streptococcus, f_Streptococcaceae, g_unclassified_o_Oscillospirales, and f_unclassified_o_Oscillospirales (p < 0.05, LDA ≥ 3); and (5) OEO supplementation in calves significantly enriched the metabolism of cofactors and vitamins pathway (p < 0.05). (6) Using Superman's correlation analysis, we screened unclassified_c_Clostridia, Shuttleworthia, and Christensenellaceae_R-7_group, three beneficial strains for calves. (7) Daily supplementation with 8g of OEO significantly affected rumen microbiota regulation in calves.

ABSTRACT

Heart failure (HF) is a highly morbid syndrome that seriously affects the physical and mental health of patients and generates an enormous socio-economic burden. In addition to cardiac myocyte oxidative stress and apoptosis, which are considered mechanisms for the development of HF, alterations in cardiac energy metabolism and pathological autophagy also contribute to cardiac abnormalities and ultimately HF. Silent information regulator 1 (Sirt1) and adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) are nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+)-dependent deacetylases and phosphorylated kinases, respectively. They play similar roles in regulating some pathological processes of the heart through regulating targets such as peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α), protein 38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). We summarized the synergistic effects of Sirt1 and AMPK in the heart, and listed the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that exhibit cardioprotective properties by modulating the Sirt1/AMPK pathway, to provide a basis for the development of Sirt1/AMPK activators or inhibitors for the treatment of HF and other cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).

This work aimed to evaluate the structure and functional characteristics of starch from ten hulled oat cultivars grown in different locations in China. The protein, phosphorus, amylose, and starch contents were 0.2-0.4 %, 475.7-691.8 ppm, 16.2-23.0 %, and 93.6-96.7 %, respectively. All the starches showed irregular polygonal shapes and A-type crystallization with molecular weights ranging from 7.2 × 107 to 4.5 × 108 g/mol. The amounts of amylopectin A (DP 6-12), B1 (DP 13-24), B2 (DP 25-36), and B3 (DP > 36) chains were in the ranges of 10.3-16.0 %, 54.5-64.8 %, 16.5-21.1 %, and 4.9-13.1 %, respectively. The starches differed significantly in gelatinization temperatures, pasting viscosity, solubility, swelling power, rheological properties, and digestion parameters. The results revealed that the larger particle size could increase the peak viscosity of the starch paste. The presence of phosphorus increased the gelatinization temperature and enhanced the resistant starch content. The starch granules with higher crystallinity contained a higher proportion of phosphate, which increased final viscosity and setback viscosity but decreased rapidly digestible starch. Overall, oat starch with a high phosphorus content could be used to prepare low-glycemic-index food for diabetes patients.

ABSTRACT

Motor imagery (MI) is a cognitive process wherein an individual mentally rehearses a specific movement without physically executing it. Recently, MI-based brain-computer interface (BCI) has attracted widespread attention. However, accurate decoding of MI and understanding of neural mechanisms still face huge challenges. These seriously hinder the clinical application and development of BCI systems based on MI. Thus, it is very necessary to develop new methods to decode MI tasks. In this work, we propose a multi-branch convolutional neural network (MBCNN) with a temporal convolutional network (TCN), an end-to-end deep learning framework to decode multi-class MI tasks. We first used MBCNN to capture the MI electroencephalography signals information on temporal and spectral domains through different convolutional kernels. Then, we introduce TCN to extract more discriminative features. The within-subject cross-session strategy is used to validate the classification performance on the dataset of BCI Competition IV-2a. The results showed that we achieved 75.08% average accuracy for 4-class MI task classification, outperforming several state-of-the-art approaches. The proposed MBCNN-TCN-Net framework successfully captures discriminative features and decodes MI tasks effectively, improving the performance of MI-BCIs. Our findings could provide significant potential for improving the clinical application and development of MI-based BCI systems.

ABSTRACT

Over the centuries, influenza and its associated epidemics have been a serious public health problem. Although vaccination and medications (such as neuraminidase inhibitors) are the mainstay of pharmacological approaches to prevent and treat influenza, however, frequent mutations in the influenza genome often result in treatment failure and resistance to standard medications which limit their effectiveness. In recent years, green tea catechins have been evaluated as potential anti-influenza agents. Herein, in this review, we highlighted the effects and mechanisms underlying the inhibitory effects of epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG), the most abundant ingredient in green tea, against different influenza viral infections, and their clinical benefits toward prevention and treatment. In addition, as the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV- 2) causes the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, our review also delineates the current perspective on SARS-CoV-2 and future insights as to the potential application of EGCG on suppressing the flu-like symptoms caused by COVID-19.

Polygoni Multiflori Radix (PMR) is a medicinal herb commonly used in China and Eastern Asia. Recently, the discovery of hepatotoxicity in PMR has received considerable attention from scientists. Processing is a traditional Chinese medicine technique used for the effective reduction of toxicity. One uncommon technique is the braising method-also known as 'Wen-Fa' in Chinese-which is used to prepare tonics or poisonous medications. Braised PMR (BPMR)-also known as 'Wen-He-Shou-Wu'-is one of the processed products of the braising method. However, the non-volatile components of BPMR have not been identified and examined in detail, and therefore, the hepatotoxic advantage of BPMR remains unknown. In this study, we compared the microscopic characteristics of different samples in powder form using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), investigated the non-volatile components, assessed the effects of different processed PMR products on the liver, and compared the differences between BPMR and PMR Praeparata recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2020 edition). We found that the hepatotoxicity of BPMR was dramatically decreased, which may be related to an increase in polysaccharide content and a decrease in toxic substances. The present study provides an important foundation for future investigations of the processing mechanisms of BPMR.

INTRODUCTION: Qingjin Yiqi granule (QYG) is a prescription medicine of traditional Chinese medicine which is widely used clinically for the recovery of coronavirus patients. However, there is currently limited research on the quality control of QYG. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the quality of QYG qualitatively and quantitatively by making full use of advanced chromatography-mass spectrometry techniques. METHODS: Firstly, a multicomponent characterisation of QYG was performed by ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a Q Exactive™ hybrid quadrupole-Orbitrap mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap-MS) system using a rapid negative/positive switching mode. Secondly, the co-condition fingerprint analysis of constituted herbal medicines of QYG was performed to unveil active ingredients as the quality markers of QYG. Thirdly, the marker compounds in 10 batches of QYG were quantified by ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a Waters Xevo TQ-S triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC-QQQ-MS) system. RESULTS: A comprehensive method that combined the inclusion list and data-dependent acquisition (DDA) to achieve a systematic characterisation of QYG was established by UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap-MS. After analysis based on Compound Discoverer software and Global Natural Products Social (GNPS) platform, a total of 332 compounds were detected. Eleven Q-markers were determined for the quality evaluation of QYG by comparison with the fingerprint of nine constituted herbal medicines. An adjusted multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) quantification method was further established to simultaneously determine the 11 Q-markers for holistic quality evaluation of QYG. CONCLUSION: This is the first study to report comprehensive multicomponent characterisation, identification, and quality assessment of QYG, which could be used for effective guarantee of the quality of QYG.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects of enzymolysis fermentation of Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) on egg production performance, egg quality, lipid metabolism, serum reproductive hormone levels, and the mRNA expression of the ovarian hormone receptor of laying hens in the late-laying stage. METHODS: A total of 360 Hy-Line Brown laying hens (age, 390 days) were randomly categorized into four groups. Hens in the control (C) group were fed a basic diet devoid of CHMs, the crushed CHM (CT), fermented CHM (FC), and enzymatically fermented CHM (EFT) groups received diets containing 2% crushed CHM, 2% fermented CHM, and 2% enzymatically fermented CHM, respectively. RESULTS: Compared with crushed CHM, the acid detergent fiber, total flavonoids, and total saponins contents of fermented CHM showed improvement (p<0.05); furthermore, the neutral and acid detergent fiber, total flavonoids, and total saponins contents of enzymatically fermented CHM improved (p<0.05). At 5 to 8 weeks, hens in the FC and EFT groups showed increased laying rates, haugh unit, albumin height, yolk color, shell thickness, and shell strength compared with those in the C group (p<0.05). Compared with the FC group, the laying rate, albumin height, and Shell thickness in the EFT group was increased (p<0.05). Compared with the C, CT, and FC groups, the EFT group showed reduced serum total cholesterol and increased serum luteinizing hormone levels and mRNA expressions of follicle stimulating hormone receptor and luteinizing hormone receptor (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: These results indicated that the ETF group improved the laying rate and egg quality and regulated the lipid metabolism in aged hens. The mechanism underlying this effect was likely related to cell wall degradation of CHM and increased serum levels of luteinizing hormone and mRNA expression of the ovarian hormone receptor.

Zanthoxylum bungeanum has a lengthy history of widespread use as a food ingredient in China. However, the composition of Zanthoxylum bungeanum polysaccharide remains ambiguous, and the antioxidant effect has received limited attention. This study aimed to extract water-soluble polysaccharide from the dried pericarp of Zanthoxylum bungeanum, referred to as WZBP, which was fractionated into a neutral component (WZBP-N) and three pectic components (WZBP-A-I, WZBP-A-II, WZBP-A-III). The findings indicated that WZBP-A-III is a pectic polysaccharide "smooth region" without many side chains. All components of WZBP exhibited a notable capacity for scavenging free radicals, with WZBP-A-III demonstrating the most potent antioxidation activity, and WZBP-A-III also observed to effectively extend the lifespan of Drosophila melanogaster and enhanced the activity of antioxidant enzymes. These results provide valuable insight and direction for future research on Zanthoxylum bungeanum polysaccharide as an antioxidant agent.

Though firstly identified in cerebral folate deficiency, autoantibodies against folate receptors (FRAbs) have been implicated in pregnancy complications such as miscarriage; however, the underlying mechanism needs to be further elaborated. FRAbs can be produced via sensitization mediated by folate-binding protein as well as gene mutation, aberrant modulation, or degradation of folate receptors (FRs). FRAbs may interfere with folate internalization and metabolism through blocking or binding with FRs. Interestingly, different types of FRs are expressed on trophoblast cells, decidual epithelium or stroma, and macrophages at the maternal-fetal interface, implying FRAbs may be involved in the critical events necessary for a successful pregnancy. Thus, we propose that FRAbs may disturb pregnancy establishment and maintenance by modulating trophoblastic biofunctions, placental development, decidualization, and decidua homeostasis as well as the functions of FOLR2+ macrophages. In light of these findings, FRAbs may be a critical factor in pathological pregnancy, and deserve careful consideration in therapies involving folic acid supplementation for pregnancy complications.

BACKGROUND: The use of ultrasound has been reported to be beneficial in challenging neuraxial procedures. The angled probe is responsible for the main limitations of previous ultrasound-assisted techniques. We developed a novel technique for challenging lumbar puncture, aiming to locate the needle entry point which allowed for a horizontal and perpendicular needle trajectory and thereby addressed the drawbacks of earlier ultrasound-assisted techniques. CASE PRESENTATION: Patient 1 was an adult patient with severe scoliosis who underwent a series of intrathecal injections of nusinersen. The preprocedural ultrasound scan revealed a cephalad probe's angulation (relative to the edge of the bed) in the paramedian sagittal oblique view, and then the probe was rotated 90° into a transverse plane and we noted that a rocking maneuver was required to obtain normalized views. Then the shoulders were moved forward to eliminate the need for cephalad angulation of the probe. The degree of rocking was translated to a lateral offset from the midline of the spine through an imaginary lumbar puncture's triangle model, and a needle entry point was marked. The spinal needle was advanced through this marking-point without craniocaudal and lateromedial angulation, and first-pass success was achieved in all eight lumbar punctures. Patient 2 was an elderly patient with ankylosing spondylitis who underwent spinal anesthesia for transurethral resection of the prostate. The patient was positioned anteriorly obliquely to create a vertebral rotation that eliminated medial angulation in the paramedian approach. The procedure succeeded on the first pass. CONCLUSIONS: This ultrasound-assisted paramedian approach with a horizontal and perpendicular needle trajectory may be a promising technique that can help circumvent challenging anatomy. Larger case series and prospective studies are warranted to define its superiority to alternative approaches of lumbar puncture for patients with difficulties.

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis of the knee is a clinically common degenerative joint disease that has a high prevalence and, if left untreated, can seriously affect a patient's quality of life. The objective of this article is to systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of the combination of traditional Chinese medicine external treatment with sodium vitrate injection in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. METHODS: By searching China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), Wanfang Database (WF), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), Embase, Pubmed, Cochrane Library. The search time was set from 2010 to March 2023. Revman 5.4 software was used for data analysis. The protocol was registered in the PROSPERO database (ref. CRD42023426707). RESULTS: A total of 3239 patients from 31 RCTs were finally included. Meta-analysis showed significant differences in the Total clinical Efficiency (mean difference (MD) = 4.62, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) = 3.52-6.08, P < .01), WOMAC score (MD = 6.57, 95% CI = 5.78-7.36, P < .01), VAS score (MD = 0.26, 95% CI = 0.14-0.37, P < .0001), Lysholm scores (MD = 5.21, 95% CI = 4.51-5.90, P < .0001), and Lequesne index (MD = 5.21, 95% CI = 4.51-5.90, P < .0001) between the Traditional Chinese Medicine External Treatment combined with sodium vitrate injection group and control group. CONCLUSION: The efficacy of traditional Chinese external treatment combined with sodium vitrate injection for osteoarthritis of the knee was superior to that of sodium vitrate injection only in all cases. Due to the limitations of the quantity and quality of the included literature, more high-quality literature is needed to validate this conclusion at a later stage.

ABSTRACT

Motion sickness (MS) is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system caused by abnormal exercise with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and drowsiness. More than 90% of the human population has experienced different degrees of MS. At present, anticholinergics, antihistamines, and sympathomimetic drugs are used for treating MS, but these drugs generally have some adverse reactions and are not suitable for all people. Therefore, it is necessary to develop anti-MS drugs that have high efficiency and no adverse effects. Previous studies have found that Chroogomphus rutilus polysaccharide (CRP) is effective at preventing and treating MS in rats and mice. However, its mechanism of action is not clear. To clarify whether the CRP has anti-MS effects in mice, and to clarify its mechanism, we performed behavioral, biochemical, and morphological tests in a Kunming mouse model. Our results indicate that CRPs can significantly relieve the symptoms of MS, and their effect is equivalent to that of scopolamine, a commonly used anti-MS medicine. Our results indicate that CRPs may directly act on the gastrointestinal chromaffin cells to inhibit the synthesis and release of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, or 5-HT) and thus reduce the signal from the gastrointestinal tract.

ABSTRACT

Imaging and identifying target signatures and biomedical markers in the ultraviolet (UV) spectrum is broadly important to medical imaging, military target tracking, remote sensing, and industrial automation. However, current silicon-based imaging sensors are fundamentally limited because of the rapid absorption and attenuation of UV light, hindering their ability to resolve UV spectral signatures. Here, we present a bioinspired imaging sensor capable of wavelength-resolved imaging in the UV range. Inspired by the UV-sensitive visual system of the Papilio xuthus butterfly, the sensor monolithically combines vertically stacked photodiodes and perovskite nanocrystals. This imaging design combines two complementary UV detection mechanisms: The nanocrystal layer converts a portion of UV signals into visible fluorescence, detected by the photodiode array, while the remaining UV light is detected by the top photodiode. Our label-free UV fluorescence imaging data from aromatic amino acids and cancer/normal cells enables real-time differentiation of these biomedical materials with 99% confidence.

ABSTRACT

Constipation may accelerate the progression of Parkinson's disease (PD). The quality of life in PD patients can be significantly improved when constipation is treated, hence the disease progression may be delayed. At present, the mechanism research is still at the initial stage for acupuncture in treatment of PD, focusing on neurohumoral factors, intestinal flora, bacterial fermentation products and intestinal inflammation; and there are the problems such as single intervention, thinking limitation and insufficient cooperation among disciplines. This paper systematically reviews the mechanism research progress of acupuncture for the treatment of constipation in PD so as to provide the references for the subsequent studies.

ABSTRACT

Subplenones A-J (1-10), 10 new xanthone dimers, have been isolated and characterized from the endophytic fungus Subplenodomus sp. CPCC 401465, which resides within the Chinese medicinal plant Gentiana straminea. The isolation process was guided by antibacterial assays and molecular-networking-based analyses. The chemical structures of these compounds were elucidated through the interpretation of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HRESIMS) data. Furthermore, the relative configuration of the compounds was determined using NMR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, and the absolute configuration was established using electronic circular dichroism calculations. All of the isolated compounds exhibited significant inhibitory activity against Gram-positive bacteria. Notably, compounds 1, 5, and 7 displayed remarkable inhibitory activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) ATCC 700698, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 0.25 µg/mL, and against vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE) ATCC 700221, with MIC values ranging from 0.5 to 1.0 µg/mL.

ABSTRACT

In geese breeding, due to the frequent influence of drugs and environmental and other factors, geese are extremely prone to oxidative stress, which adversely affects growth and development, geese meat quality, down production, and severely affects the development of the geese industry. Ferulic acid from plant extracts can be used as a feed additive, which is safe and non-toxic, and it can exert certain therapeutic effects on oxidative stress in geese. This experiment investigated the effect of ferulic acid on the growth performance, organs indices, and intestinal oxidative indices of Jilin white geese under lipopolysaccharide-induced oxidative stress. Geese were randomly divided into six groups: C (blank control), L (lipopolysaccharide control), F1 (60 mg/kg ferulic acid), F2 (120 mg/kg ferulic acid), F3 (180 mg/kg ferulic acid), and F4 (240 mg/kg ferulic acid). Groups L and F1-F4 were injected intraperitoneally with 0.5 mg/kg lipopolysaccharide and group C with an equivalent volume of normal saline on days 14,17 and 20, and 10 animals from each group were randomly selected for slaughter on day 21. The results showed that: 1) On day 14, the final body weight and average daily feed intake were significantly higher in group F3 than in group L, and on day 21, the final body weight was significantly higher in group F3 than in group L. 2) The thymus index was significantly higher in group F4 than in group L. 4) In the duodenum, MDA activity was reduced in group C compared with that in group L. 5) In the jejunum and ileum, MDA was significantly lower in group F3 than in group L. These results show that the addition of 180 mg/kg of ferulic acid to the diet can promote the growth of geese and alleviate the damage caused by oxidative stress in all intestinal segments.
